4-Year Undergraduate Degree Program

The Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan) at SGI College of Engineering is a comprehensive 4-year undergraduate program that prepares students for professional careers in urban and regional planning, housing, transportation, environmental planning, and infrastructure development.

The curriculum focuses on planning theories, GIS applications, land use planning, development regulations, and sustainable urban development. Students gain hands-on experience through planning studios, fieldwork, and industry projects.

Our faculty comprises experienced planners, architects, and social scientists who provide mentorship and guidance. The program follows Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with multiple electives including Urban Design, Environmental Planning, and Transportation Planning.

Admission Information

Regular Entry (4-Year Program)
  • Duration: 4 Years (8 Semesters)
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with any stream (Mathematics preferred)
  • Minimum Marks: 50% (45% for reserved categories)
  • Admission: Through merit or entrance examination
Lateral Entry (3-Year Program)
  • Duration: 3 Years (6 Semesters)
  • Eligibility: 3-year Diploma in Planning/Architecture/Civil Engineering
  • Direct admission to 2nd year
  • Special focus on advanced planning techniques

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan) is a 4-year undergraduate program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in urban and regional planning, housing, transportation, environmental planning, and infrastructure development.

PAQIC

Program Assessment and Quality Improvement Committee (PAQIC):

The PAQIC oversees continuous quality enhancement of the B.Plan program through systematic assessment of program outcomes and stakeholder feedback, ensuring alignment with industry requirements and planning standards.

Committee Members:

  • Chairperson: Head of Department
  • Faculty Representatives: 3 Senior Faculty Members with planning experience
  • Industry Expert: 1 Representative from development authority or urban local body
  • Alumni Representative: 1 Successful graduate working in planning field
  • Student Representative: 2 Students (3rd and 4th year)
  • External Academic Expert: 1 Professor from reputed planning institution (SPA, CEPT, etc.)

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes and course outcomes specific to planning education
  • Collect and analyze feedback from students, alumni, employers, and government stakeholders
  • Recommend curriculum updates based on planning industry trends and government policies
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (COA, AICTE, ITPI guidelines)
  • Review GIS laboratory facilities, software tools, and equipment requirements
  • Coordinate faculty development programs, workshops, and training in planning
  • Review student academic performance, studio work, and internship outcomes
  • Facilitate industry-institute interactions with development authorities and urban local bodies
  • Prepare annual quality assurance reports and action plans for program enhancement
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives based on assessment results and stakeholder feedback
  • Monitor emerging trends in planning and recommend incorporation into curriculum

Meeting Schedule:

The committee meets quarterly to review program progress, assess outcomes, and implement quality enhancement measures specific to planning education.

Departmental Advisory Board:

The Departmental Advisory Board provides strategic guidance on curriculum development, industry requirements, and program enhancement to ensure our B.Plan program remains relevant, competitive, and aligned with the evolving planning profession and government policies.

Meeting Frequency:

The board convenes bi-annually to review department progress, discuss planning industry trends, and provide strategic direction for program enhancement and industry alignment.
